Everyone Is Talking About AGI: Are We Even Using Basic AI Properly Yet?

Everyone’s debating when AGI will arrive. Meanwhile, most teams haven’t figured out how to use the AI they already have.

That’s the real gap.

AGI is a machine that can reason, learn, and adapt across any task, the way a human executive would. It doesn’t exist yet. What we have is narrow AI: powerful, but built for specific jobs and dependent on human direction.

The problem isn’t the technology. It’s how we’re using it.

Too many professionals treat a chatbot like it’s already AGI. They ask for a finished marketing strategy or a complete legal contract in one prompt, then publish the output without checking it. Current systems run on pattern recognition, not understanding. Trusting them blindly leads to factual errors, generic content, and bad calls.

So what does using AI properly actually look like?

Start with cognitive offloading. Hand the machine repetitive, data-heavy work: scanning documents for specific clauses, flagging inefficiencies in supply chain logs, drafting a first-pass email. That’s where AI earns its keep.

Then add the part it can’t do. Machines process data. They don’t have context. The best results come from a human applying judgment, audience knowledge, and strategy on top of what the machine produces. The AI generates options. You choose the right one and shape it.

That division of labor is what separates teams getting real value from AI and teams generating noise.

Stop waiting for a machine that can do everything. Start mastering the one that can already help you do your best work.
